Fringe Shutter Collective’s upcoming exhibition, Contrast: A Working Title explores the concepts of sameness and difference inherent in the societies where we may find ourselves. Through various interpretations of a stimulus, in this case the word “contrast”, Fringe Shutter Collective display the diversity of contemporary communities, and the ability of the photographic medium to exploit the notion that there are moments of truth and of deception.

The multiplicity of the word “contrast”, even within the limited context of the photographic world, works to communicate Fringe Shutter Collective’s divergent approaches to the photographic medium and allow for the creation of layers of meaning and metaphor. The concept speaks directly to social truths by simultaneously referencing reality, and acting as a substitute for it in this postmodern society of simulacrum.

Who: 10 artists, we have a very creative bunch, including Red Bubblers (some fresh from Steve’s Rusted and Crusted show) and a few members of the Fringe Shutter Collective.

When: December 9th, from 7pm

Where: Ma Gallery, 27 Dick St, Chippendale

Come along, there’s a very impressive array of works on display, some live music and nibbles/drinks!

Roger, one of the collective’s members, is participating in a group show starting this week…

Come along this Wednesday, November 25th, for the opening of Steve McLaren’s new group show “I’m Rusted, I’m Crusted, I’m Falling to Bitz”.

The show is at Tap Gallery, 45 Burton St Darlinghurst, and the opening starts at 7pm. The show will run through to Dec 6th

Australian iconic actor Jack Thompson will officially open the show
indigenous poet (and national treasure) maggie walsh will read some poetry.
indigenous dancer terry olsen from bangarra dance comp will do “welcome to country” and dance
“no joe bluesmen” will perform
“r &d2” jazz duo will perform
“dave & jo ” duet will perform
a number of music spots will be throughout the place
an installation by artist rufus sureallo will be upstairs
and “sugar and spice” the 2 most amazing belly dancers will perform also
and probably more!
and nibblies and drinks and the great company of many great artists
